The Hans Davidsen Family
The Family of Hans Davidsen and Kari Larsdatter (the Birth Family of the Maternal Grandfather of the Editor's Paternal Grandfather), on the Verslien Farm, Toten Parish, Oppland County, Norway. Hans Davidsen was a great-grandfather of both the editor's paternal grandfather and paternal grandmother. His Døpte reports he was born on July 28, 1788.
His father was 33-year-old Farmer David Hansen of Verslien. His mother was 27-year-old Helene
Haagensdatter. The editor is unable to decipher the names of David's baptismal witnesses. However, the farm names Qvaxrud and Myrstuen appear in the list.
In the 1801 Census, Hans Davidsen is reported to be the oldest child (age 12) in a family of six children living with their parents on the Verslien farm in Toten parish.
Hans Davidsen married Kari Larsdatter, who was was born in 1796. In the 1801 Census, the editor found two five-year-old Kari Larsdatters living on farms in Toten parish, and he is uncertain which was his ancestor. One lived on the Hørserud farm, the other on the Gjestrum farm. The Kari on the Gjestrum farm most likely was the editor's ancestor (see the list of witnesses at the baptism of Maria, the daughter of Kari's daughter Karen).
Among Kari's children was a daughter named Karen Hansdatter and a son named Lars Hansen. The Toten Økomuseum informed Norman Malterud that Karen Hansdatter's date of birth was March 5, 1815, and Lars Hansen's Døpte records his date of birth as January 29, 1823.
Karen Hansdatter became the maternal grandmother of the editor's paternal grandmother, and Kari's brother, Lars Hansen, became the maternal grandfather of the editor's paternal grandfather. |
