The Johannes Olsen Family

The Family of Johannes Olsen and Kristine Hansdatter (the Birth Family of the Editor's Paternal Grandmother's Father), on the Malterud Farm, Østre Toten Parish, Oppland County, Norway. 43-year-old Johannes Olsen (the paternal grandfather of the editor's paternal grandmother) married 26-year-old Kristine Hansdatter on November 26, 1814. The editor believes that this was Johannes Olsen's second marriage, because 13 years before, in the 1801 Census, the editor found 32-year-old Johannes Olsen (a Cottar with land living on the Maltrud Lille farm) married to 30-year-old Berte Hansdatter.

In the 17-year perid between 1815 and 1832, Kristine Hansdatter gave birth to six children. On January 15, 1832, according to his Døpte, 44-year- old Kristine Hansdatter gave birth (on the Malterud farm) to Johannes Johannesen (the father of the editor's paternal grandmother).

Johannes Johannessen's baptismal witnesses included 58-year-old Maria Kristiansdatter of Taasaas Store farm and 90-year-old Berte Andersdatter of Taasaas Lille farm.

The following year (1833), Kristine's 55-year-old husband (Johannes Olsen) died. Kristine died 35 years later at age 80, in 1868, the year in which her youngest child (Johannes Johannessen) emigrated from Norway to America with his rapidly growing family.
